Her heart races, her muscles coil, and every impulse in Alessa's body screams at her to run... but yet she's powerless to move.
Still struggling to find her footing after the sudden death of her parents, the last thing college freshman Alessa has the strength to deal with is the inexplicable visceral pull drawing her to a handsome ghostly presence. In between grappling with exams and sorority soirees - and disturbing recurring dreams of being captive in a futuristic prison hell - Alessa is determined to unravel the mystery of the apparition who leaves her breathless. But the terrifying secret she uncovers will find her groping desperately through her nightmares for answers.
Because what Alessa hasn't figured out yet is that she's not really a student, the object of her obsession is no ghost, and her sneaking suspicions that something sinister is lurking behind the walls of her university's idyllic campus are only just scratching the surface...
The opening installment in a twist-laden trilogy, Stitch spans the genres of paranormal romance and dystopian sci-fi to explore the challenges of a society in transition, where morality, vision, and pragmatism collide leaving the average citizen to suffer the results.
My Thoughts:
Not being a huge reader of Dystopia I went into this with an open mind and having tried to stay away from really reading anything in regards to the books content so that I could enjoy the storyline as it unfolded. So once I started reading, the whole dystopia thing completely left my mind and I'm sitting there reading what I think is a pretty awesome ghost story when all of a sudden I'm like whoa!! Okay, so it's not a ghost story. Pretty awesome twist to the storyline.... So I keep reading and then I'm like WHAT!!!! I sure didn't see that coming!!! And so then I'm completely immersed in this book that has thrown this plot at me that was so unexpected but so incredibly amazing!!
Stitch starts out with college student Alessa still grieving the death of her parents when she starts seeing the ghostly presence of Issac. At first she is pretty freaked out by it but gradually Alessa feels a pull towards him and a growing attraction but his appearances leave her incredibly drained. Then there are the dreams that she is having which she has no explanation for either. Determined to find out who Isaac is, Alessa sets out to learn all she can about him.
The book is told mainly from Alessa's point of view but occasionally we get a chapter or two told in Isaac's voice. Not a lot, but what we did get made me feel that I understood him better and the way that he was seeing and experiencing things because in the beginning Alessa doesn't know much about him either so it was hard to get a grasp on him or to feel a great connection but the chapters told from his point of view really helped with that.
Normally I like the books I read to come with a huge dose of romance and while the romance between Alessa and Isaac is not by any means the main focus of the book, it's always there, even when it's not being spoken about. You can just feel their love as the story unfolded and progressed. And to be quite honest, there was so much else going on throughout the book that I really didn't give the romance side of things a second thought until it was there in front of me on the page and I loved the little bits and pieces that we did get.
Stitch really blew me away with the awesomeness of the storyline and all the twists and turns. The layers of the story and the depth of the characters were revealed at a perfect pace. Samantha Durante did such an amazing job of continually surprising me so that Stitch became a book that I just didn't want to put down. A fantastic start to the series!!
4.5/5 Stars!!
