BLOG TOUR - REVIEW & GIVEAWAY: The Collector (Dante Walker #1) by Victoria Scott

The Collector (Dante Walker #1)
From Entangled Teen
Release Date: April 2nd, 2013
Paperback/e-book
400 pages

He makes good girls...bad.

Dante Walker is flippin’ awesome, and he knows it. His good looks, killer charm, and stellar confidence have made him one of hell’s best—a soul collector. His job is simple: weed through humanity and label those round rears with a big red good or bad stamp. Old Saint Nick gets the good guys, and he gets the fun ones. Bag-and-tag.

Sealing souls is nothing personal. Dante’s an equal-opportunity collector and doesn't want it any other way. But he’ll have to adjust, because Boss Man has given him a new assignment:

Collect Charlie Cooper’s soul within ten days.

Dante doesn't know why Boss Man wants Charlie, nor does he care. This assignment means only one thing to him, and that’s a permanent ticket out of hell. But after Dante meets the quirky Nerd Alert chick he’s come to collect, he realizes this assignment will test his abilities as a collector…and uncover emotions deeply buried.

The Liberator (Dante Walker #2)
Bad boy, meet bad girl.

Dante has a shiny new cuff wrapped around his ankle, and he doesn't like that mess one bit. His new accessory comes straight from Big Guy himself and marks the former demon as a liberator. Despite his gritty past and bad boy ways, Dante Walker has been granted a second chance.

When Dante is given his first mission as a liberator to save the soul of seventeen-year-old Aspen, he knows he’s got this. But Aspen reminds him of the rebellious life he used to live and is making it difficult to resist sinful temptations. Though Dante is committed to living clean for his girlfriend Charlie, this dude’s been a playboy for far too long…and old demons die hard.

With Charlie becoming the girl she was never able to be pre-makeover and Aspen showing him how delicious it feels to embrace his inner beast, Dante will have to go somewhere he never thought he’d return to in order to accomplish the impossible: save the girl he’s been assigned to, and keep the girl he loves.

About the Author
I'm a YA writer represented by Laurie McLean. Author of THE COLLECTOR (Entangled Teen, April 2013) and THE BRIMSTONE BLEED (Scholastic, 2014). I have a master's degree in marketing, and live in Dallas with my husband. When not writing, I can be found munching cotton candy and snuggling obese cats.
My Thoughts:

I throw my head back and laugh long and hard. Then I lean in and whisper in her ear, "You don't know who you're fucking with, princess. Ain't no one do bad like I do"
Dante Walker's been pimpin himself out for a while now, telling us all how awesome he is. A guy who talks himself up like that had me intrigued. I couldn't wait to see if he lived up to his own hype. And The Collector has probably been one of my most anticipated books for 2013.

Two tears ago, I was just your average seventeen-year-old guy. That's a lie. I've never been average. I look like a movie star and move like an athlete.
I always highlight little bits and pieces of a book as I read it. Passages that stand out or things that the characters say that make me laugh or smile or even cry. The Collector is filled with so many highlights it's not funny!! There was just so much that blew me away about this book. It's originality. The way Victoria Scott writes. The unique characters...

She's a disaster. It's kind of tragic. Why is this girl still alive while I'm a walking corpse?
I can't stop staring at her mouth. It's the only thing that's passable. Of course, it never stops moving.

Dante Walker is a soul collector and his latest assignment is to collect the soul of Charlie Cooper. He has ten days to complete the task and as far has he's concerned he has it in the bag!! Poor Dante. He is in for a shock!!! Charlie Cooper is about to get under his skin like no one ever has before!!

I loved that Victoria Scott created such unconventional characters. Yes Dante is gorgeous and swoony, but you don't love him right off the bat. And while you will adore Charlie, she is physically, not what you will typically find in a YA book.

I glance in the mirror. Surprise, surprise - I look finger-lickin' delicious.

Dante Walker talks big. Really everything about him is big. His ego, his arrogance, his cockiness, his self assuredness... You get the picture. In all honesty you may not have an instant love for him. I didn't. But I did like him a lot. He is witty and and can be completely charming, when he wants to be. He is also caring and protective of Charlie right from the start. And he rocks a pair of red Chucks. My absolute favourite pair of shoes that I own!!

I mean, Charlie's definitely not a looker, but who's to say she won't be when she grow's out of her bad skin? Or finds the right hair stylist. Or hires an orthodontist and gets LASIK and puts on some weight and gains a morsel of confidence. I've seen it happen.

Nerdy Charlie Cooper is completely made of awesome!! I can't even begin to describe how amazing she is!! She is not your typical female lead. She hasn't just stepped out of the pages of some fashion magazine. She is real and down to earth and she has such a pure heart. Heck, she made me want to be a better person, so Dante didn't stand a chance against her.

I can't stand the sound of her voice. I can't stand the way she's looking at me. And I can't stand the crap she makes me feel.

There is no instant love here. With her frizzy hair, glasses, uneven teeth, limp and bad skin, Dante is in no way attracted to Charlie. But the more time that he spends with her, the more he see's the amazing person that she is. I adored watching Dante grow and and experience all these new feelings.

So did Dante Walker live up to all his hype? Hell yeah!! Victoria Scott has written an amazing book that I loved from the first word to the last. Pure perfection!!! Bring on The Liberator!!!

5 Dante is beyond FLIPPIN AWESOME Stars!!!

  1. Me and Dante ( at least the book) have the same birthday day. I predict a new book boyfriend crush in the future.
