Title: Falling Behind
Author: Dee Avila
Genre: Mature Young Adult
Release Date: June 2013
Hosted By: Love Between the Sheets

Going into the her second year of high school in the rural town of Laton, Reese was ready to come out of her shell, experience life with her best friends and find a way to tell Titus she wanted to be more than friends. When Josh, the new student, shows up on the first day and a whirlwind relationship starts between him and Reese, she was in her own world and barely noticed her friend spiraling downhill. The night Josh pushed her to far her best friend died, causing her own world to spiral.

Trying to move on from losing her best friend and ignore what Josh did to her, Reese pulls away from everyone. She had to overcome her fears and face her demons to be able to move forward.

ALTERNATIVE POV
JOSH

My blood was boiling. I was fucking tired of Reese lying to me. She swore up and down that nothing was going on between her and Titus. He’s her best friend. My logical mind told me. But I saw the way they looked at each other. I guess my girlfriend was blind as a bat and couldn’t see the way he looked at her. It put a bad taste in mouth just thinking about it.
All through the homecoming rally, I watched him take her in, all of her. His eyes devoured her toned legs and slim waist. Reese had a rocking body, for not being into many sports she kept fit. Before you say it, no, to me cheerleading is not a sport. Seriously, how hard can it be to move your arms and shake your hips? That’s right, it’s not. It’s so easy the football players did it today.
I loved the way her body felt against mine and I’ll be damned if he’s going to take that away from me. As soon as the rally was out I rushed over to my truck. I couldn’t stand to watch him any longer. The more I said to Reese about it, the more she blew me off. The only time I didn’t give two shits about them was when I was high. It was easier to ignore him and brush off her looks of longing when I had coke in my system.
So here I was leaning against my truck with my arms crossed over my chest and my left foot resting over my right, coming down from my lunchtime high, pissed at the way Titus watches Reese and sex-deprived. Yep, you heard me right. We had sex already, why the bitch was holding out was beyond me. I was about to lose my shit.  I liked her, I told her I loved her and I may. Who knows, really? Why am I sticking around and putting up with the whole no sex thing? Because she’s a great girl and when I am sober we get along great. She makes me want to be sober more.
I spotted her coming toward me and I couldn’t stop the frown that stretched down the corners of my mouth. She looked way to fucking happy. She should know I’m mad and already be here fixing it. My gaze travels her body, as I make my way back to her face I see Titus standing near the entrance to the gym, watching us.
“Hey , Babe, great rally, huh?”
Lifting my glasses to the top of my head, I narrowed my gaze. “I guess. If you consider your girlfriend’s friend staring at her the whole time.”
I refused to smile when I watched her little frame sag as she sighed and forced her hands on her petite hips. “What are you talking about? I have no clue when you think you saw Titus staring at me; but I never saw it.”
My blood went from boiling to raging as I took in her friend still staring. “Maybe; maybe not. But I’ve asked you several times to tell Titus you’re off limits. The guy doesn’t stop staring at you!”
I wanted to laugh in her face when she huffed out, “He’s not. I told you we’re friends. He is my best friend other than Candice.”
Purposely I flicked my gaze behind her to where Titus was still standing. “Really? Look for yourself Reese. He’s freaking staring at you right now!”
She spun around and her drop dropped. Good. Maybe now she’ll believe me. When she turned back to me I saw something flash in her eyes. I couldn’t be sure but it looked like determination. I’ll be damned if I allow her to keep talking to him on a regular bases. “Josh, I don’t know what that was, but I need to talk to him. I came over here to tell you I wasn’t going to need a ride.”

It was time to pull out the big guns, give her an ultimatum. Then I was going to have a little chat with Titus. This shit was going to end. Period.  “Get in the damn truck now, Reese! If you choose to go talk to him, this…” I gestured between us. “Is over.”

Author Bio:

I'm a wife and mother of four. I have been writing for as long as I can remember. I use to write fairy tales when I was in grade school, but now I love writing about those tough high school years and how one decision can change the course of your life. Friendships, first loves and over coming the odds all interest me.

Three years ago, I decided life was too short to waste my stories by letting them collect dust on my shelves. I researched querying, took a few writing workshops and wrote the whole time. I first ventured away from what I normally wrote and tried a Paranormal Romance. That novel is tucked safely away. A year ago I chose to go back to my roots and write what I love - friendships, love and choices - how speaking out can save a life, maybe yours or a friends.

I talked to other authors and made wonderful friends. That's when I learned about self-publishing. I'm glad I followed through. I was so nervous to hit publish, but now I am grateful for the encouragement. It was the best decision I've ever made.

I'm usually in front of my laptop. When I'm not writing I am either trying to catch up on a weeks worth of laundry or on Facebook. I am a huge procrastinator. Usually close to a deadline, you can find me actually cleaning house just so I don't have to hit send. I think sending my books out to betas and my editor is the second scariest thing in the world. I love Rockstars and PB&J sandwiches. (Not the healthiest I know but it’s the fastest and it tastes good.)

I love meeting new people, find me on Facebook/deeavilaauthor
