REVIEW: Inseparable by Missy Johnson (NEW ADULT)

Can you imagine losing your twin?

Nineteen year old Lily is still struggling with the death of her identical twin, Abby, a year later when she moves away from home for college. Even in death though, their bond is still strong, with Abby visiting Lily in her dreams.

When a chance encounter with Twenty-One year old Dane Hansen changes Lily’s life, Lily’s friends warn her off becoming involved with Dane. He’s bad news, according to the rumors, anyway.

Dane has experienced loss himself, he understands Lily, and the more time he spends with her, the harder he falls. There is something he hasn’t told her though, something almost nobody knows, and it’s something that might stop Lily from feeling the same way.

Abby holds the key to something that will change Lily and Dane's life forever, but how do you get someone else to believe something you don't quite understand yourself?

My Thoughts:

Imagine every part of your life, every milestone, every hurdle, was shared with someone so entwined in you that their every emotion and feeling directly affected your own. Then imagine they were ripped from your life, gone forever. That's how I felt.

Lily is just returning to college after dealing with the death of twin sister Abby when she encounters Dane Hansen. Dane is also just returning to college after a long absence. The rumours about Dane and the reasons for his time away would be enough to make anyone question their attraction to him. But Lily looks deeper than those rumours and discovers the truth that Dane has been hiding.

How strong is the connection between twins? Is it so strong that even after the death of one you are still able to communicate? This is exactly what occurs between Lily and her twin sister who has recently passed away from cancer. Abby visits Lily in her dreams where they share the same closeness as before Abby's death. Abby dishes out advice and they discuss things that are occurring in Lily's life. But it then becomes more than that. Abby tells Lily something that is going to have an impact on a great many people. Also, how will people react when Lily tells them that the information has come from her dead sister?

At first I wasn't really too sure if this book contained a touch of paranormal or if it was just eluding to the deep connection that twins share but as the story progresses it all falls into place. For the most part it's a contemporary romance and then there are glimpses of paranormal which escalate as the book continues. I absolutely loved the concept of the story and really enjoyed that side of things. There was also some mystery and some twists and turns to the story and for me all of those things combined were the standout.

Dane Hanson. My heart swooned.

Oh god. That sparkle in his eyes was driving me insane. And his lips, they looked so soft, so kissable. He was so damn sexy.

The romance between Dane and Lily kind of developed quickly. Well at least their feelings for each other did. For me it was all a little too quickly and there were times that I just didn't feel the connection between them. As separate characters, both Lily and Dane were likeable, kind, caring and loving people. And they had moments where I could really see what could have been between them. They definitely had a strong connection through their grief and loss that they had both suffered. And I will say that towards the end of the book I felt the romantic connection between them the most.

All in all Inseparable was an enjoyable read built around a unique concept. I think that possibly if the book had have been longer there would have been a little more room to develop the characters and therefore the opportunity to feel better connected to them. In saying that I will definitely read more of Missy Johnson's books.

3.75/5 Stars!!
