REVIEW: Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover

At twenty-two years old, aspiring musician Sydney Blake has a great life: She’s in college, working a steady job, in love with her wonderful boyfriend, Hunter, and rooming with her good friend, Tori. But everything changes when she discovers Hunter cheating on her with Tori—and she is left trying to decide what to do next.

Sydney becomes captivated by her mysterious neighbor, Ridge Lawson. She can’t take her eyes off him or stop listening to the daily guitar playing he does out on his balcony. She can feel the harmony and vibrations in his music. And there’s something about Sydney that Ridge can’t ignore, either: He seems to have finally found his muse. When their inevitable encounter happens, they soon find themselves needing each other in more ways than one…

My Thoughts:

I've learned that the heart can't be told when and who and how it should love. The heart does whatever the hell it wants to do.The only thing we can control is whether we give our lives and our minds the chance to catch up to our hearts.

I'm pretty sure that I've said it before when it comes to Colleen Hoover's writing. She is perfection. She wouldn't know how to write anything that wasn't heartfelt and amazing. And Maybe Someday, once again proves that. It is 367 pages of feelings and emotions. It is the whole package and then some.

Sydney Blake is happy and content. She has a wonderful boyfriend, a good job and an awesome best friend. That is until her neighbour, Ridge lets her in on what he's discovered. Her wonderful boyfriend is actually having an affair with her awesome best friend. With nowhere else to go, Ridge offers her the spare room in his apartment. It doesn't take long for Sydney and Ridge to connect over their shared love of music. But there's a few things that Ridge has been keeping from Sydney. How will they wade through their increasing attraction after Ridge drops his biggest bombshell?

We all like that pretty outer package. It's what attracts us in the first place. But what I love most about Ridge and Sydney is what's inside. They both have such special hearts. Hearts that are so big and so willing to sacrifice, and have the ability to give so much love. These characters were so selfless. They each had moments of weakness but above all, their hearts were so amazingly beautiful. And that is so much more attractive than what we see on the outside.

Ridge is overflowing with the highest morals. He is good to his very core. He is selfless. He is loyal. He is love. He is a rarity. He is everything. There was absolutely nothing about him that I didn't fall completely in love with.

Sydney was so strong. With everything that she has thrown at her, she is willing to forgo her feelings to do what Ridge wants. She always tried to be respectful. She never pressured or pushed for what she wanted. She was constantly putting others before her.

Nothing in my life has ever felt so good, yet hurt so achingly bad.

Sydney and Ridge were friendship. They were attraction. They were guilt. They were emotions. They were torn. They were touch. They were taste. They were love. They were heartbreak. They were anger. They were music. They were lost. They were found.

I relax against his chest, finding the rhythm of his heartbeat.
Beat, beat, pause.
Beat, beat, pause.
Beat, beat, pause.
It's absolutely beautiful.
The way it sounds is beautiful.
The way it cares is beautiful.
The way it loves is beautiful.

There were scenes throughout this book that were so full of beauty that they made my breath catch. Colleen Hoover's writing is exquisite. She is flawless in her descriptions.

Music plays such a massive part throughout Ridge and Sydney's story. It was a huge part of what made this book so fantastic. You didn't just read their story, you also heard it and felt it.

It would be remiss of me not to mention the supporting characters. Maggie and Warren added so much to this story. They were the perfect accompaniment to Ridge and Sydney. Their presence added so much depth to the story. Maggie was sweet and fun and always, always seemed to be smiling. Warren was such a loyal friend, although he had no problems in dishing out the hard facts when they needed to be heard.

Reading a Colleen Hoover book is an experience. An experience that has you running through so many different feelings. The intensity of emotions is what I love most about it. You don't just sit down and read a few chapters here and there, get to the end, close the book, and walk away. No, you devour it. Every last page. And when you're done, you know that a little part of you will be forever changed for reading it.

At this point in time, I would read anything that Colleen Hoover writes. She is a master at her trade. She is the goddess of delicious, swoony males. She is the epitome of New Adult. Maybe Someday is a must read. Don't wait. Get it today. Live the experience.

5/5 Original, Intense, Heartbreaking, Perfect Stars.

A huge thank you to Simon & Schuster Australia for the opportunity to read and review this absolute gem of a book.
