The Liberator (Dante Walker #2)
by Victoria Scott
Release Date: August 27, 2013
From Entangled Teen
Summary from Goodreads:
Bad boy, meet bad girl.
Dante has a shiny new cuff wrapped around his ankle, and he doesn't like that mess one bit. His new accessory comes straight from Big Guy himself and marks the former demon as a liberator. Despite his gritty past and bad boy ways, Dante Walker has been granted a second chance.
When Dante is given his first mission as a liberator to save the soul of seventeen-year-old Aspen, he knows he’s got this. But Aspen reminds him of the rebellious life he used to live and is making it difficult to resist sinful temptations. Though Dante is committed to living clean for his girlfriend Charlie, this dude’s been a playboy for far too long…and old demons die hard.
With Charlie becoming the girl she was never able to be pre-makeover and Aspen showing him how delicious it feels to embrace his inner beast, Dante will have to go somewhere he never thought he’d return to in order to accomplish the impossible: save the girl he’s been assigned to, and keep the girl he loves.

My Thoughts:
I'm no angel. Never have been, never will be. I'm just bad, baby. Maybe because of the way I was raised, or maybe it's good old-fashioned genetics.
Or maybe it's because deep down, I like the way being bad feels. Pow!
Victoria Scott has definitely achieved it. She has achieved what I suspect all authors strive for when writing a sequel. And that is that it will be better than the previous book. Well, The Liberator is way beyond better. It is amazing in it's epicness. Every single page was just pure awesomeness.
Dante Walker works for the The Big Guy now. No longer a collector, his job is to now liberate the souls of humans. And this is something that Dante struggles with. He believes he's a demon. He believes that he's bad. He likes the party lifestyle. He likes the life he lived as a Collector. Sent on his first mission to save the soul of Aspen, Dante comes face to face with a girl who reminds him of himself. So what does Dante do? He parties right along with her. But there is that little voice in the back of his head that tells him he wants to be good for Charlie. She has such unwavering faith in him.
Dante is still full of confidence. He is still cocky. He is still witty. He is still sarcastic. He just wouldn't be Dante Walker if he wasn't all those things. And I love all those things about him. All those aspects of him fit perfectly into the person he's becoming. He grows so much during this book. He becomes so much more than he was throughout The Collector. He has so many different sides to him, and watching him discover all those different aspects of himself was perfect.
"I love the way you are Charlie. I love it so much it tears me apart. I think about what would happen if I didn't have you in my life -- you, the girl you were when I met you -- and I feel like I can't breathe." I trace my thumb over the dip below her bottom lip. "All my life, all I've ever wanted was to take. But with you, all I want is to give you everything -- every creature in the sea, every star in the sky...my own beating heart. I love you, Charlie. Just the way you are, I love you"
So I'm going to admit that I got a bit teary while reading The Liberator. I definitely didn't expect that to happen. But cry I did. At the sad and the happy. I admit to being a bit of a softie, and Dante Walker managed on more that one occasion to get me all teary with his words. His words of love and his ability to care. He may not believe it, but this boy has the biggest heart. It's so full of goodness and love. His love for his friends. His adoration of Charlie. And adore her he does. I love nothing more than seeing the so called bad boy fall hard in love. And Dante is in so hard!!! Their love for each other is beautiful. But don't fear that Dante is all soppy and soft. The boy knows how to kick ass when it's called for. And kiss ass he does. Many times over, because the action is ramped up to new heights this time around. There is bad at almost every turn and Dante will do whatever it takes to take down the bad.
"You were breathtaking Charlie. You are stunning now, you know that. But you were stunning before too. Not everybody could see it, but sometimes that can make a girl so much more appealing. The beauty who doesn't know she's beautiful. The girl everyone seems to ignore, but to the right person she's like this...like this beam of light. You were a beam of light Charlie," I say. "I'm just sorry it too me so long to see it."
Charlie is still with the purest of heart this time around. But she shows us that she's not a walk over. Don't mess with her or those that she loves because she's got moves. And she'll use them if she has too. She is full to the brim with love and loyalty and I think my girl crush on her grew a little more in this book.
She looks at me, and a shiver races down my spine.
How do I liberate a girl who is exactly like me?
And then we have Aspen. She plays a big part in the story. Boy is she is strong and tough. But then there are things about her that will pull at your heartstrings. I didn't love her at the start. In fact, I probably didn't even like her a whole lot but by the time we get to the end of the book I loved her. I loved the relationship that she has with Dante. I loved her crazy fighting skills. I loved her for the sacrifices she makes.
I love the way Victoria Scott writes. I love the characters she has created and I love the world she has built for them. The only thing that I can say I don't love is the fact that I now have to wait for book three!!!
