WAITING ON WEDNESDAY #26: Immortals (Runes #2) by Ednah Walters

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Nothing can stop Raine Cooper when she wants something…
Raine finally knows that her gorgeous neighbor, Torin St. James, is a legend straight out of Norse mythology, and that her feelings for him are strong. Torin is crazy about Raine too, breaking the one rule he lives by: Never fall for a mortal. The problem is he no longer remembers her, his memories erased by Norns—Norse destiny deities—to punish her for defying them.

So Raine comes up with a plan...
She will make Torin forget his one rule a second time and fall in love with her all over again.
But she quickly learns that well-laid plans do not work when dealing with deities and supernatural beings. Desperate, Raine makes choices that could not only tear her and Torin further apart, but lead to the destruction of everything and everyone she loves.

Expected publication: August 5th 2013

A modern day thrill ride, where a teen girl and her animal companion must participate in a breathtaking race to save her brother's life—and her own.

Tella Holloway is losing it. Her brother is sick, and when a dozen doctors can't determine what's wrong, her parents decide to move to the middle of nowhere for the fresh air. She's lost her friends, her parents are driving her crazy, her brother is dying—and she's helpless to change anything.

Until she receives mysterious instructions on how to become a Contender in the Brimstone Bleed. It's an epic race across jungle, desert, ocean, and mountain that could win her the prize she desperately desires: the Cure for her brother's illness. But all the Contenders are after the Cure for people they love, and there's no guarantee that Tella (or any of them) will survive the race.

The jungle is terrifying, the clock is ticking, and Tella knows she can't trust the allies she makes. And one big question emerges: Why have so many fallen sick in the first place?

The sleepy town of White Halls harbors a dangerous secret. On a picturesque street, two houses down from a lovely little park, in a quaint little home with a wraparound porch, lives a family that seems rather normal. It's all very... normal.  However, when a man is miraculously saved from being hit by a bus, Xander's life turns in to the living embodiment of the tornadoes he can suddenly create with a flick of his wrist. Whether he wants this gift or not, Xander must learn to use his new 'super power' quickly if he wants to survive.  For his kind is a dying race, and when this sleepy town has a sudden influx of new, blonde, fire wielders, no one is safe, especially Xander. GUEST REVIEW: Persephone (Daughters of Zeus #1) by Kaitlin Bevis

There are worse things than death, worse people too.

The “talk” was bad enough, but how many teens get told that they’re a goddess? When her mom tells her, Persephone is sure her mother has lost her mind. It isn’t until Boreas, the god of winter, tries to abduct her that she realizes her mother was telling the truth. Hades rescues her, and in order to safely bring Persephone to the Underworld he marks her as his bride. But Boreas will stop at nothing to get Persephone. Despite her growing feelings for Hades, Persephone wants to return to the living realm. Persephone must find a way to defeat Boreas and reclaim her life.

Review:
Kaitlin Bevis’ Persephone, is the first book of the Daughters of Zeus trilogy. Persephone was refreshing, youthful and was steeped in Greek mythology.  Bevis did an exceptional job at balancing the historical elements of Greek mythology with modern young-adult romance.
The book is told from Persephone’s, also known as Kora, perspective. Persephone is an everyday high-school student who quickly discovers the truth about her familial lineage and her ties to the supernatural world. Persephone is portrayed as an independent young woman who fully embraces challenges thrown her way ranging from discovering her ties to the Gods, adapting to the Underworld life, developing and maintaining her friendship groups, deciphering her attraction to Hades, while fighting off attacks from Boreas the God of Winter. All in all, Persephone is pretty kickass.
I have read a fair few reinterpretations of the Hades & Persephone story; however, Bevis’ version is by far my favorite one in the Young Adult category! The relationship between Hades and Persephone was sweet, realistically (…well as realistic as a paranormal novel can get) developed and paced. Despite the obvious biological age between the two characters, Hades and Persephone’s relationship is kind, witty and endearing.  There were numerous moments where I found myself "squeeing" from the tenderness of their relationship.  The book is well written and well researched and free of any typographical errors.
I became so addicted to the Daughters of Zeus’ series that I am now on the third book in the series, The Iron Queen. Needless to say, I loved Bevis’s Persephone!
Ladies and gentlemen -run, don't walk to your nearest bookstore for your personal copy of Persephone!

5/5 Stars!!
